Camera work reflection

Hi blog! Over the past month in class, we learned so many new things that go into the making of a film. I documented the process that I followed so that I could share how I got my successes!

 Camera movements

We first learned about the different camera movements through an article that we took self-notes on, then we watched a video that went more in-depth and even gave examples of the movements through scenes in movies and shows.

For the actual project, I had to create an opening for a film that conveyed the emotion, surprised. The film was 6 shots and used various movements such as push in, static and arc shot.

A challenge that I faced when filming was that because I filmed at school, I had to wait for people to leave so that I could shoot in a clear scene.

Throughout the process of filming, I learned that even though there are different shots, they can be filmed at almost any height to change the perspective and the scenes are used to convey certain emotions to the audience.

Something I would do differently for the project would be to get more film of the same scenes that way I have more options to choose from when deciding the final pieces.

Camera angles/shot

Similar to the movements, we learned about the camera techniques through notes; however, we took notes at stations and got examples to cut out/label that we put in our notebooks.

Now this project was a little different compared to the previous one, instead of film shots, we took pictures and I did mine in 16 camera shots.

I was able to successfully convey my story through the various photos that I used. I actually found myself having less trouble with the filming process of this project overall.

Something that I learned through the process was that there are so many different ways and combinations that can be used in filming and ever since we learned the camera angles I have noticed them when I watch TV at home!

For next time a project like this comes up, I know now that I have to shoot horizontally rather than vertically.
